Kan rødlysterapi hjelpe med lavere blodsukker etter måltid? Ny menneskestudie viser lovende resultater
Store blodsukkerstigninger etter måltider, også kalt glukosespikes, kan på sikt føre til insulinresistens, betennelser, hormonubalanse og økt risiko for type 2-diabetes. For mange gir det også energidips, søtsug og ustabilt humør. Derfor søker forskere stadig etter trygge, naturlige og effektive måter å regulere blodsukkeret på. Nå peker en ny studie på at rødt lys kan spille en viktig rolle. Hva sier forskningen? Studien "Light stimulation of mitochondria reduces blood glucose levels", publisert i Journal of Biophotonics (2024), ble gjennomført ved City University of London og University College London. Den inkluderte 30 friske voksne som alle gjennomførte to glukosetoleransetester. Før hver test hadde deltakerne fastet i minst ti timer, og deretter inntok de en drikk med 75 gram glukose. I den ene testen fikk deltakerne 15 minutters eksponering for rødt lys på 670 nm rettet mot øvre del av ryggen, 45 minutter før glukoseinntaket. Den andre testen var en kontroll uten lysbehandling. Resultatene var oppsiktsvekkende Med rødlyseksponering ble den totale blodsukkerresponsen over to timer redusert med 27,7 prosent sammenlignet med kontrollgruppen. Den høyeste målingen av blodsukker etter måltid ble redusert med 7,5 prosent hos de som fikk lysbehandling, og hele 12,1 prosent lavere enn kontrollgruppen. Hvordan fungerer det? Forklaringen ligger i mitokondriene, cellenes energifabrikker. Rødt lys med bølgelengder rundt 660–670 nm stimulerer mitokondriene til å produsere mer ATP, kroppens primære energimolekyl. Dette gjør cellene mer effektive til å ta opp glukose fra blodet. Resultatet blir en jevnere og lavere blodsukkerrespons etter måltid. Rødt lys bidrar også til økt blodgjennomstrømning og reduserer oksidativt stress. Begge disse mekanismene spiller en rolle i hvordan kroppen håndterer blodsukker og generell metabolsk helse. Hva betyr dette for deg? Selv om studien er liten og mer forskning er nødvendig, viser resultatene at rødlysterapi potensielt kan være et nytt verktøy for bedre blodsukkerkontroll.
